Want a new player..quick question

Long ago the dvd player I had in my living room died- So I bought a nice new one, multiple holder, the works- because that is where I entertain-

Now, I have redone my bedroom, new furniture and so on- and have the space to put a nice tv and a dvd player- so could someone name a few brands to me that are known to play burned dvd+ or dvd- as well as PAL format discs-
so that I can buy one machine to do all formats I have.

I previously bought one, for on the OUTSIDE it said it did this- but after just going through return HELL to return it when finding out it didn't, I only got a store credit, despite the receipt in hand-
So I would like to go purchase a new one that does, what it says it can do-
but I will take the word of truth HERE instead of on a box as done before.

My budget is 89.00 on the reciept and maybe a little over if I have to add- but this is a secondary player I just want it to play formats, I don't need to record, edit etc etc etc.

Thanks for any advice![8)]

Does this store have any Toshiba players?

SavageAmusement 09-10-2007 07:16 AM

This is what I wrote down today on my lunch hour:

Philips Upconvert DVD Player with DivX, DVP3960/37

Magnavox DVD/VCP Player, DV200MW8
Watch your favorite movies on DVD or VHS with equal ease

Philips DVD Player/VCR Combo, DVP3340V
Take advantage of one player that plays both DVDs and VHS tapes.

Sony Progressive Scan DVD Player, DVPNS57P/WM

Durabrand Progressive Scan DVD Player, DVD-1002

Magnavox Progressive Scan DVD Player w/ DivX, MWD7006

Magnavox Progressive Scan DVD Player, MDV460
It plays commercial DVDs and CDs, as well as DVD+/-Rs and CD-Rs, including MP3s burned onto a disc.

these last 2 are the ones that SEEM they can do pal but notice upon researching them they say nothing about pal.

i can find all sorts of info on dvd+r and dvd- r Nothing on pal format.

i've read so many now, my brain hurts.

What toshiba model would you recommend to play burned discs, ntsc & pal?

SavageAmusement 09-10-2007 07:21 AM

I can't find toshiba anywhere--- but I keep seeing posts about how easy it is to pick up a cheap 25.00 player that plays pal- and I am curious what player that is...brand/model etc.

But I didn't find a toshiba at walmart, circuit city or best buy out here.

I have a Walmart Durabrand in my kitchen. It plays PAL and NTSC, works suprisingly well, has good color/decoding quality, and the only flaw I have found so far is it hates low-reflectivity discs (Ritek, being the primary offender). I bought it because it was small enough to fit in the area on the counter above the tv. It doesn't have any advanced functionality (zoom, color modes, audio enhancements, etc), but for $25, no shock there.

Best Buy used to carry the Toshiba models. Any of them tend to be just fine. My Toshiba has all the advanced features. So does the Toshiba I bought for my mom two years ago Christmas.

I'm going to check out the Walmart Durabrand then..I don't need fancy settings for the room its going in, its just a - watch a cartoon before bed kinda machine- but i don't want to be limited on format to do so-

The player i have in my entertainment room can have all the fancy features I have yet to figure out.

If the durabrand doesn't work, i'll pipe up again.
