Do you need a battery to use the GX7 or can you just use a AC adapter to power the GX7

the manual says to plug the AC adapter directly from mains to camcorder

but i cant see any connection on the back of the camcorder to connect the AC adapter to.

The AC adapter connects in the battery slot. It's like a very flat battery with a wire that connects to the power brick. as you can see on the illustration.

You would need an adapter that comes with this thing (image from a long gone ebay ad):
Panasonic-Original-K2Gj2Dz00011-Vek8925-Dc-Cord-Cable-Dv.jpg

The battery-looking part connects to the camcorder battery slot, while the barrel plug connects to the battery charger. Part number seems to be k2gj2dz00011 according to the manual.

Rather than having a AC input plug on the camcorder, they used a dongle that connected to the the battery slot instead. It was a common method of providing power from AC on older camcorders.

If you are very adventurous and cant find an adapter you could maybe jerry-rig something that connects to the battery terminals on the camcorder with the right DC voltage.
