I have a JVC HR-S9700EK Video Recorder. I would like to access the menu, but I don't have the remote. Where can I find one or is there a way to access menu without it?

Unlike the USA/NTSC models, the PAL units do not have a menu botton on the deck itself, to access menu controls. You must have a remote.

The good news is that pretty much any JVC S-VHS remote works fine -- they're all interchangeable.

For example:

Attachment 806
  • The black one is model # LP20303-015 and came with a JVC HR-S9800U
  • The brown one is model # LP20465-007 and came with a JVC HR-S3800U
  • The gray one is model # LP20878-016 and came with a JVC HR-S7965EK
Any one remotes operates all the S-VHS VCR models mentioned above, as well as the SR-V10, SR-V101, HR-S7900, HR-S4800, HR-S9600U --- and probably all the others, too. The black remotes calls itself a "MULTI BRAND REMOTE CONTROL UNIT".

These can often be used on JVC brand CRT (SD tube) TV sets, too.

Check eBay for these kinds of remotes, there's usually one up on auction.

Hope that helps. :)
