JVC HR-S7100 vs HR-S9600 for recording video?

It's been a long time, but your advice has been right on target for me. Love that JVC
I have a HR S 7100U. I might have asked you. Do you think it's worth cleaning to record my dirty dusty old vhs tapes because I rather not wear down my 9600 and the quality of these tapes doesn't matter as much.

If recording to tapes, sure, clean the old VCR -- also make sure it's properly aligned. Use SP mode only.
Don't wear down the 9600 with recording -- use it for playback only, to transfer videos.
