Can any of those exact models allow burn scans?

I'm going to have to create custom responses that only Site Staff can use. Usually it's for certain repetitive topics, but it will be for certain repetitive people as well.

"Dear gamemaniaco, no further information or opinions are available at this time."

... followed by a thread lock.

I'm not joking. My time is too thin for this. You're not banned because you ask good question. But you ask the same question over and over and over a gain. STOP IT!

I don't know offhand either.

I have all 3 brands of DVD or BD burner.
- LG is cheap, usually fine, but I don't like LG as much. But don't let my preference influence here.
- Asus is more finicky. At one point, I think Asus rebadged (maybe still does?), and maybe Pioneer some years ago?
- LiteOn is all over the place.

Again, I'd search for details on which drives (if any) allows useful scanning. That's be my pick these days.

The problem = I don't have current data on the newest drives.
Newest media, yes.
Newest drives, no.
I am exactly 5 years outdated on drives. In 2021, spring/summer, I'll surely correct this. But not now. Busy.

If not looking for scanning, then price would be factor. Burning won't be much different.

At one point, LG was only M-DISC drive. But now? I don't know. Look at the specs of the drives.

I don't know which one to choose because maybe they have better or worse readers and some brand burns better and has better error correction but these 3 brands read mdisc

on the sata / usb3.0 cable can you supply enough power to power an internal drive?

ASUS
model: DRW-24F1MT (90DD01Y0-B30030)

What are all 3 exact models?
I'll do about 2 minutes apiece for some Google-fu for you, few things I can quickly look at.

At the moment I would have to search other LG and LiteOn models but the model that was easier to find was this model from ASUS it is at a good price but I never used ASUS

I thought that this choice was directly linked to the brand and not the model but these 3 brands are the only ones with M-DISC support

has the status of the adapter cable to power the internal drive

Lordsmurf thanks for your patience and help

That Asus is probably fine. Current burners don't differ much. Not bad, not excellent, but all moderate, commodity items now. It's not like when we had Samsung, Pioneer, Plextor, BTC, BenQ (all good drives), along with lots of not-good drives. My BenQ is sadly failing now, Pioneers have all failed, maybe a single Samsung external is fine, etc. Drives don't last long. The tuny mechanical optics wear.

I have an Asus in my main system, DVD only, works quite nicely for reading, average for burning, about 10 years old now.

For my case I will save storing the drive to use in the future because these drives will stop being manufactured

is it possible with some software to test whether the drive is good or bad?

does the sata / usb cable have enough power to power the internal sata drive? I need this cable to use the internal drive outside the PC

Read a disc.
Burn a disc.
If available as a feature, scan a disc.

Really not much else can be done. After you see it works, store it away. I have some extra drives in reserve, too!

12V, I think. But it's not important to you. You cannot use a generic USB cable. It must be an enclosure made for optical drives. Opticals are not HDD/SSD.

No idea. I haven't bought an optical enclosure in 10 years now. The wire you linked will not work. You have more research to do, if you insist on using the SATA drive as an external.

Better? Not really, just different.
Easier? Probably.

Get a non-slim drive, as I mentioned.
