what the heck I tried Sony-Memorex and Verbatim and it doesnt recognise 16x media.

I've had the same problem with mine! It does recognize TY02 8X and I also use the
Verbatim -RWs. Sony forget it.

I use Verbatim DVD-R 1x-16x discs all the time.

see other people are having this issue. can someone tell the the exact type of dvd-rw that will work. so i can go to best buy and buy a small pack of dvdrw disc

Buy 2x DVD-RW.
Verbatim, Sony and TDK are all good choices.

The machine was built during 2x days. The discs only run about $2 each, not expensive.
I own 35 discs, but use less than 10-15 at any time.

they must have changed more in the machine (I have the drm100s) other than the fix for the loading drive error. All I use are Sony 16x with no issues

The 100 has a newer OptiArc drive in it, therefore newer firmware. Nothing major.
