Newegg is rarely cheaper than Amazon, and Amazon will almost always match when they see it.
There's about a dozen reasons I don't like Newegg anymore:
On the buyer side, it's been an issue with:
- rebates not being honored,
- receiving defective OEM products (that are fine from other stores),
- horrible flimsy shipping packaging
- sales tax in a few states, including mine
- slow (SLOW!) shipping, both outbound and in-transit times
- limits on number you can order (example: only 5 spindles of this specific DVD-R)
On the affiliate side, it's been an issue with:
- pathetic 1% sales commissions, vs 4-6% by most others
- curious dips in number of transactions compared to other merchants in same spot
- unfriendly linking tools and/or restrictive link rules via CJ
- zero response from affiliate services reps
(Granted, our deal advice is unattached to affiliate links -- used when we can, don't when it's not -- but given the choice between Newegg vs Amazon having the best price, I'll always link to Amazon.)
So it's lose-lose. And I've come to not trust them. It's more hassle than it's worth.
Amazon has none of these negatives.
