1. Hmmm.... interesting. I've never seen CMC made in Singapore. Are you sure? To my knowledge, only MCC (Mitsubishi Verbatim) -- not CMC -- is made in Singapore.

2. It's changed several times. At one point it was azoic inorganics (azo), and at another it was just custom inorganics. CMC has good reflectivity, and the dye can actually be decent, but the pressing process is really crappy. That's how it gets that 50/50 mixed bag of quality. You'll generally get a bunch of coasters.

2. Durability = you mean longevity. That starts at burn time, unless the blank is like 20 years old.
3. "Philips" is just a brand name. CMC is the manufacturer.
4. The best "dye" doesn't matter as much as the manufacturer using it. AZO is good, but so are non-AZO organics and inorganics.
5. Several. For example, even within Mitsubishi, it changes with time, and across the media type (CD, DVD, Blu-ray)

I think you're over-thinking this some. Learning is good, yes, but at some point you have to start learning chemisty and going through patent documents to learn about the media. (Which I've done, and is NOT that fun.)
