I was tossing out old receipts from the file cabinet. While doing so, I saw the following amounts:

August 2001 = Pioneer 1-pack 2x DVD-R = $10 each
December 2001 = Apple 5-pack 2x DVD-R = $30 each
January 2002 = Princo 50-pack 1x DVD-R = $290 each
March 2002 = Ritek 1x 25-pack 1x DVD-R = $97 each
September 2002 = Ritek 50-pack 1x DVD-R = $45 each
November 2002 = Princo 50-pack 2x DVD-R = $43 each
November 2002 = Ritek 25-pack 1x DVD-R = $25 each
November 2003 = Maxell 15-pack 2x DVD-R = $20 each
January 2003 = Optodisc 100-pack 2x DVD-R = $80 each
October 2003 = Optodisc 100-pack 4x DVD-R = $115 each
October 2003 = Ritek 100-pack 4x DVD-R Inkjet = $125 each
December 2003 = TDK 15-pack 2x DVD-R = $21 each

ha ha I remember this December 2001 = Apple 5-pack 2x DVD-R = $30 each

I think I remember paying around $250-350 for my first Pioneer DVD Burner

and now they are $40 ha ha ha

Funny isn't it...well, if I were to look back at that and see how money I spent, I'd probably get angry.

wowser! did anyone really pay that kind of money?

ever since i can remember, i've always opted to wait.
similar to pc games.
never ever bought anything game when it first comes out.
always waited for the budget version.
and since i play the game 1 to 2 years after it comes out, i only need "old" technology/graphics card and so save money there as well.

but sometimes it can be a long & frustating wait.

Yeah manthing, all those numbers came off my receipts. I bought two 50-packs of Princo discs for about $600 shipped in early 2002. At $3 per DVD, that was a steal of a price too! Hard to beat a deal that good in those days.

I remember being overjoyed that DVDs were only $1 apiece in 2004. And then 50 cents and now even less. It's almost unbelievable how cheap discs are! And the 16x speeds? Double layers? That was thought impossible back then, even by the engineers that designed them.

My Pioneer 103 ran me $800 in August 2001.

Yep I remember prices on cd-r disks when they first came out being ridiculous compared to now.I think my first burner set me back several hundred dollars.And the first guy I traded dvds with said his burner cost $1000 at the time.Nice to see things this cheap now!!!Lucky for us technology is doubling every six-nine months now, so we will keep getting new technology cheap!Just have to wait half a year to a year and you can buy stuff half or less than what it cost upon first appearing.

i suppose it comes to your passion for your hobby. money will be found for it. sure the dog goes without food, but what the hell, you'll get your dvd burner & blank dvds, right?!

Well, those were my business receipts manthing. For my hobby, I did skim a few off the top for myself, but those mostly went to customers for whom I did video work (and they paid for disc costs!). I could not personally afford too many DVDs for myself until they started to hit $1-2 apiece. Back then, I only needed a few too. Also understand that was before DeCSS and DVD Shrink and Netflix and all, so nobody really coied DVDs, you made them from your own sources!

Yeah same here, when I was first starting out I used my money I got for projects and just re-invested it into hardware. My JVC DVD Recorder my wife gave me for our anniversary and then 2-4 projects and you can buy the DVD burner, etc.

Its one of the reasons LS and I make no real money in this hobby because we reinvest most of it into things like DVD Recorders, Computers and new technologies like my DVHS.
