You don't. You plug your capture device into your laptop and plug the tbc into your capture device.
What tbc and capture hardware you are you using?

Thank you for the reply! I'm using FA-125 TBC (that's what it says on it) and Tevion capture hardware.

Tape player > TBC -> Tevion

You don't appear to have a line-level tbc. The FA-125 is a frame-level "frame synchronizer". The FA-125 will not correct scanline error distortion. http://www.digitalfaq.com/forum/vide...html#post54299

Good luck.

Thank you! The s-video connection from the Tevion to the TBC doesn't seem to be working. I purchased the workflow on this site so I'm hoping the TBC is the one I need. Could you give me more information on what mine is missing?

If your player does not have s-video output and you're using its composite output, you likely have to stick with composite for all of the components in your capture workflow. Otherwise, someone with more experience with the FA-125 and the Tevion will have to chime in. I've read about those components but have never seen details about them.

Any FA-125 or Tevion experts out there?

VCR > TBC > capture card, all via s-video

FA-125 is good TBC, has s-video
That exact Tevion is a ATI 600 USB clone (note: NOT just any random Tevion), also has s-video

I'm 99% certain that he's also using a JVC S-VHS with line TBC, as it's one of my workflows.

Yes, I knew I remembered reading about those components in this forum a while back and seeing s-video all the way. So you need to have s-video cables to connect the devices. I think you can even buy s-video in Home Depot, and certainly on the internet. So what could be the problem?

My guess is
- the selection of input/output, (both VCR and capture card)
- the cables,
- and the right cable holes being filled with snug fits.

Even I sometimes go too quickly, plug the "ins" in the "outs", or forget to set composite/s-video in card or VCR. Slow down. Be meticulous. Making a self checklist is ideal. Perhaps I should make a guide for this on the site? (a checklist before capturing, what all to verify/check, a "preflight")

Hi Lord Smurf,

It seems like the cable that came with the Tevion doesn't fit into the TBC. Do I need to purchase a different cable of some kind? I am just using the things you sent me when I ordered the workflow. Also, I think a checklist would be great, if you are able to create one.

Uhhhh.... huh?

- capture card = s-video/composite in, USB out
- VCR = s-video/composite in, s-video/composite out
- TBC = s-video/composite in, s-video/composite out (and some models also have BNC)

You need s-video cables. I don't remember if I gave you any extras. (Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't, never promised with workflows, just depends on what extra cables I have on hand when packing boxes. A few people specifically request cables, so I buy them on reimbursement.)

Again,
- VCR > TBC > capture card, all connected via s-video.
- capture card > computer is via USB

Audio is VCR > capture card, via red/white RCA wires. Only video has the longer path.

Ok, thank you. This is very helpful. It looks like I will need another s-video cable and that will take care of that issue. For the DV transfer, I have a mini DV canon camcorder. I believe I need to connect that directly to the Tevion but how exactly? The firewire cable doesn't fit into the Tevion. Do I use the RCA cable which came with the Tevion and plug the yellow and red into the camcorder?

It would be less pain for you to do some reading online about video formats video and audio connectors and cables, this is not a plug and play hobby, it requires some basic know how.

It was my understanding that this forum's purpose was just that - to help those without much experience with all of this learn how to do it. I have done a lot of "reading online" about all of this. It would have been a better use of your time to simply answer my question rather than write your rude response.

If you have done a lot of reading online you should know what's the difference between a firewire cable and a RCA cable, I'm happy to help but I don't spoon feed.

I do know the difference between the two. My camcorder has connections for BOTH. I did not know which one to use to connect to the Tevion. The items I purchased (on this website) did not come with instruction manuals and I was told when I purchased that this forum was here as a resource. I don't know why you are even chiming in on this post. I did not ask you directly any questions. I would appreciate you letting other, more willing to help people, answer.
