HELP!! VCR Damsell in Distress

Hi Everyone,
I occasionally use my Toshiba DVD Video Recorder/Video Cassette Recorder to transfer from tape to disc but now the VCR plays the tapes at the wrong spped (to quickly) where before there had been no issue with LP recordings. Can anyone suggest the solution.

Is it fast-playing tapes that had previous played fine?

With no detailed info or video sample I'm going to assume the capstan control board took a dump, time to to get another VCR, see VCR suggestion section.

Its a Video/DVD Recorder combi and would rather see if I can get any suggestions here than pay at least 150 to buy a second hand one or get it fixed for that amount as well, (I've looked into those options!)
