During January and February 2012, Site Staff will be auditing old threads on The Digital FAQ forums, to answer and reply to old posts that may have been left unanswered. All posts should always receive answers, even if that answer is an honest "I don't really know" (which generally comes with advice on how to research the topic more). Premium Members get first responses (few days max), Free Members on time-available basis (few weeks max).
Any post older than 60 days will receive a link to this thread, to understand why an answer was "given late".
This forum is almost 10 years old (2002), and forum technology has changed quite a bit in that time. Since at least the beginning of 2011, Site Staff has had a queues/monitoring system in place, to monitor all new posts, which is how we're able to respond so quickly (or remove spam, if that be the case). Prior to that, we just had to look carefully, and that's obviously subjected to human error. In some cases, even the queues system had bugs until late this fall, which led to missed reporting, and therefore we accidentally ignored posts/threads even as recently as 6 months ago.
A number of old threads also have lousy titles, like "Need help with this" instead of something useful. We've been editing these when found, but the audit should clean up 100% of the forum's threads. This will help current and new users alike, when searching on specific topics. The automatic URL redirection system will maintain proper linking to older threads.
It's hard to be an "FAQ" if answers are missing, or if the questions are not obvious.
As always, working to make this a better site for all of our clients, members and readers.
Thanks.
