Blank replies by admin?

1 Attachment(s)
Hello,

I started noticing the below blank replies from admin in many of the older (or even new, I am not sure) posts. Any issue on the site?

See above. The 'ghost' reply from admin is appearing again even in this thread...

The site ads are being tweaked, starting with the forum. Did you notice that more ads were gone for Premium Members? :D

If you're naughty, and are using certain web browser plugins, you may be blocking the ads (some or all). So it would appear blank. But you may also be blocking other site content! It's not just ads that get blocked by the hatchet jobs plugins. I've seen plugins block things here that they should not. Remember that plugins are not official releases -- those are coded by amateurs, and many have adware or malware/trojan payload bombs (especially on Google Chrome). Yes, use good plugins like NoScript, but you should whitelist sites you trust, like www.digitalFAQ.com.

The ad is part of a fake user account. It's not really the admin posting. Notice the lack of quote/thanks, or the post number. The Site Staff position show to be the Ad Manager. Carefully read the thanks and post counts...

Infinity thanks to everybody! And 42 is the meaning of life!

The name is due to disagreement over what the fake user should be called. Gargamel was one thought, and leaving it as admin was another. We're open to other ideas.

Ads can be useful. Ads help the site generate a few dollars to help pay for itself. Others obviously feel the same way, because they click on things they like. We get some needed site maintenance funds, and they find something they need/want. It's really win-win all around. Most of the ads here are for blank media, video/photo software, cameras, and web hosting -- stuff we all need and use.

Make sense?

Additionally, we're writing exclusionary PHP for certain forum usergroups on the main site -- but that's more tricky. Yet that's what we're trying to do. Not just a (mostly) ad-free forum, but a (mostly) ad-free main site for Premium Members. All the guides, reviews, and editorials. At some point this year, we may raise the Premium Member price to $25 to compensate for it.
