Quick Tips for capturing video tapes (VHS, VHS-C, Video8, Hi8, DV)

Guides are good, but sometimes you just need quick advice for problems...

NOTE: This is a work in progress. Feel free to contribute tips. :)

VHS

1.

VHS-C

1. Forget the VHS-C adapters. Unless it's a powered unit (example: JVC CP7U), it's probably not any good, and will give you problems. Worse yet, many VCRs will "eat" VHS-C tapes -- even professional decks! Instead, you can simply repack VHS-C tapes into normal VHS tape shells. Yes, it takes a little bit of effort, but you also avoid risk associated with the 'C' format of VHS tapes.

Video8 / Hi8

1.

DV / Digital81.
