The chamois swabs recommended for cleaning video heads. I see them listed online, but what type of store do I need to be looking in locally? The chain drugstore I visited had no idea what I was talking about.

I'm really bad with arts and crafts but I may have to resort to that. Do you glue the cloth on?

i use tape - stretch the chamois over the stick and put the tape high up enough it wont contact the head,
keep the chamois moist and a sealed plastic container so it doesnt dry out
then dampen with 91% alcohol before use

Yep, but volksjager beat me to the punch while I was looking up links.

I've never found them locally, either. Bought mine 10 years ago, with a kit from Amazon that included shop-grade head cleaning fluid. Can also be used to clean old audio tape players. If you wanna make your own, that'll work. If I'm in a hurry I don't drag out that kit, I just use alc and a small piece of smooth printing paper.

I have no idea whether or not you could use them but I use Roland Brand swabs to clean my digital printer, they're available at any local sign supply or perhaps even a sign shop if you're nice. Digital print heads are extremely sensitive so the swabs have to be lint-free, highly absorbent and have no reaction with cleaning chemicals. It may be worth looking into.

I actually use foam swabs -- not chamois. They're better for optical glass, like my cameras.
And for cleaning VCRs, we use DSLR sensor swabs.

Foam: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...HFK3NPXSMQGS36
Sensor: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...BJYEBOPM25KUSC

But to be honest, you can probably use foam for the VCR heads too, if you want to be cheap about it. Just NOT COTTON is the important part. The foam is about $20, the sensor about $35.

- For sale in the marketplace: TBCs, workflows, capture cards, VCRs

There are several places you can go to get this but the easiest would be to go to amazon. I also think you can get it at michaels as well.

you may be able to pick it up at frys electronics as well.
