VCR with HDMI out?

I am looking for a VCR with HDMI out. This is not for capture, I just want to connect a VCR to a modern TV which only has HDMI. I DON'T WANT SEPARATE CONVERTERS, causing more cable junk.

I am not even bothered that much about quality (within reason). I just want a one cable HDMI solution so I can play some old tapes. Ideally I want something I can pick up on Ebay relatively cheap in the UK.

If it also had component it would also be a bonus.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

I'm not sure if D-VHS players will output the VHS via HDMI or not. I believe many (all?) were made before HDMI was even decided on as the standard. I don't remember anymore.

There were two DVHS decks sold in the US with HDMI (HM-DH5U and HM-DT100U), it likely outputs analog footage via the jack going by the manual. There was also one Bluray-VHS combo deck (Panasonic DMP-BD70V) that outputted VHS playback via HDMI too. Not much help in PAL land though.

Okay if there are no real choices for HDMI, what about component? What options do I have for component?

Honestly, I don't see this happening. It's no different from trying to use the light zapper with an HDTV (NES reference, anybody?). Sometimes old and new tech simply does not work together.

Why not just transfer the tapes? How many do you have?

So are you saying I can't even get a VCR with component? I thought I saw VCR with component many years ago?

It's not about transferring the tapes, they are not always my tapes but elderly relatives who bring them and want to watch them. So if I could find a VCR at least with component that would be perfect.

I haven't run into a TV with only component and HDMI inputs. Usually they support composite on the "Y" component jack.

Above is a European model with SCART, TVs sold in the US/Canada omit that. Note the marking on the "Y" plug.

Basically in PAL land your only option would be a DVD-VHS combo with HDMI output, and you will have to carefully read the back panel of the unit and/or the manual to determine whether it will actually output VHS over HDMI -- most will have a note somewhere saying that VHS can only be output over composite. But expect the quality to be worse than connecting composite from a regular VCR.

The same applies to component. Though you could also get one of the old huge pro decks that outputs component and only plays back SP mode.
