Hi!

I am making a documentary about a particular 1980's rock group
and one of my collaborators - in the UK - has a 1983 master live recording
which is on, I am told, 2" NTSC tape. It's not a format I can find much info about.
It's somewhere between 70 and 100 minutes long.

I am guessing that the tape will need to be sent to the US, which is fine,
but I need some advice about where specifically we should send it to.

Hope you can help!

Cheers

Ben

Are you sure it's 2"?
Quadruplex videotape (Ampex) seems unlikely.
I'd be more inclined to believe it's D-2. That'd make much more sense.

Measure the tape width. Confirm it really is 2" in size.

If it is open reel and 2 inch wide tape, its almost certainly quad. The D-2 cassette standard didn't appear until the late 80s, so that's out (unless it was a dub, not a master). 1 inch open reel would be standard for the time, likely Type B or C. The dominant cassette format at the time was still 3/4" U-Matic with Betacam having just appeared on the market.
