This site is 15+ years old, and in that time many members have come and gone.

With our forum, it's usually due to lack of continued interest in video, which is understandable since this is often a project-based hobby task. The person finishes their videotapes, and move on to their next task/hobby. Thankfully we've rarely had to ban anybody, and it's equally rare that somebody leaves in a huff.

However, in the past couple of years, members have actually died.

We have a catch-all status for members whose emails are bouncing, spammers, and the banned. But it seems wrong to lump in our deceased members into that group. And "Deceased" seems to cold..

I want some suggestions on what that usergroup should be.

Thanks for your help on this.

I'm still giving this a lot of thought.

Its an important and practical problem.

["No longer with us"] sounds best I think, its not invasive, like "deceased" or "passed away" and could be for many reasons. They may have abandoned the board, or stopped updating or participating in their messages.

But it also doesn't sound punitive like "Banned" or "No longer communicating" -- there could be definitive information about their health or other status, but its not over shared with the community.

Its also a little more informative than "Last communications" since its a status that has to be set by an administrative function and shows up in bold letters.

It implies if you want to know more PM an Admin, but otherwise, don't expect a reply if you try to contact them.

If you wanted to stand apart from the traditional meaning better.. then

[ "No longer participating on the forum" ]

That's longer, and may sound a bit harsher.. but it does imply its their choice.

It is a bit more indirect though, and doesn't try to deliver bad news to anyone in particular.. and it implies inquire with the Admins for more information.

No longer posting ?

Member Emeritus is not bad. Or you could try On Holiday/On Leave/On Vacation, etc.

Maybe even Pining for the Fjords...

We've settled on Remembered

The person is in the invalid/banned usergroup, so no PMs can be sent to him/her, no more emails sent to the address.

I think it works very well.

Ah they are already in the invalid group........

OK then..... Other outstanding members who can be verified "passed" might be good using "Eternal Member"..

Thanx for letting us know Lordsmurf
