Hi Guys,

Been a while since I've posted on here. I've been having some trouble transferring miniDV tapes recently, I've seen more and more issues with video being pixelated and audio dropping out. Currently using Sony HDV decks, but I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions on some models that might iron these issues out better?

Thanks,
Sean

All DV and HDV camcorders play DV tapes the same way if they are not defective, The are just data streamers. Make sure the heads are clean and the tapes are still in good shape.
What OS do you have and what application are you using to transfer the stream?

Not sure if all equipment plays LP tapes. Or at least, LP tapes are very sensitive to differences between devices so having some cameras may be helpful.

The two DV decks we have got, especially the DHR-1000 have not been as good as playing back tapes as our sony cameras, but that could be an alignment issue too so I can't conclude anything from it.

That said you could also have been unlucky and have gotten tapes that were recorded with a badly aligned vcr/camcorder too, in which case the only solution is the original device or misaligning a device to play them back properly.

I though DV tapes have one speed even HDV I believe have the same tape speed but uses MPEG-2 more efficient than DV which allowed for more resolution and better chroma sampling, Could be just bit rate difference that is called LP and SP? I owned miniDV camcorders before and I don't recall seeing the SP/LP option. I could be wrong since I haven't used DV for ages.

Edit:
I visited one of the forums that I use to go to when I had the Sony FX-1 and here is what they say about tapes compatibility:
