HP 4890 scanner stopped recognizing multiple images?

4890 has stopped recognizing multiple images when scanning film strips. It will scan the entire bed. I am running the HP image solutions software on an old XP system as HP has not released new drivers for the win 8 and 10 operating systems that will take advantage of all the capabilities of the 4890.

An "easy" fix attempt is to uninstall/reinstall the device drivers. Scanners can be finicky.
