the common thing on the internet is red-eye removal
but does this need a different technique?
any help you can give will be appreciated.
cheers
Use Photoshop.
Open the image in Photoshop.
For this quick "proof of concept" fix-it, I'm using Photoshop CS3 Extended.

Go to
Image > Adjustments > Levels
Click the Auto button
It will readjust a lot of the colors quite decently.
Feel free to adjust levels manually, or further tweak past the auto settings.
OK

Now let's take care of that still-problematic harsh red color saturation
Goto
Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation
and it brings up a new settings window.

Edit: Reds (from dropdown box in the new window)
  • reduce saturation about -28
Edit: Magenta
  • reduce saturation about -17
  • reduce lightness about -53
Feel free to "play around" with other colors, or alter these settings to something you feel may look a bit better. Again, this is a quick proof-of-concept example, not a fully-tweaked perfectionist example.
OK

And you'll get this:

It's clearly not photo-perfect, with some remaining color issues, but it's still much better than what it started as.

Hope that helps.
