Not sure why you're wanting to record VHS in 2021, but I digress. Still lots of VHS blanks on eBay of varying quality, but tape stock quality really went downhill around the turn of the century....

I've bought two ES10s on eBay and had to have them recapped, but other than that I don't see a problem buying one on eBay. Caps going bad/needing recapped aren't eBay's fault, or the seller's. Just...

I have never not seen FireWire (a.k.a DV in/out) on a DV or DVCAM deck, but it was largely an afterthought on DVCPRO equipment due to the format being targeted toward broadcasters, where the decks...

For sale: AVToolbox AVT-8120 (with Lordsmurf seal) [SOLD]

For sale is an NTSC only AVT-8120 quad splitter that acts as an external TBC. I am certain this has the sought after green AVT-8710 chipset since it doesn't freak out on JVC S-VHS menus. At some...

So did the tape break off at the leader, or further along? If it just broke at the leader that's a pretty easy fix by yourself. While some may howl at this method, I've simply applied Scotch tape...

Panasonic ES10 remote control sensor failure?

My Panasonic ES10 no longer responds to its OEM remote. Yes, the remote is working. I changed the batteries, nothing. I pointed the remote at my smartphone camera and it sees the light blinking when...

For Sale: Sony EV-S7000 Hi8 editor

For sale is a working Sony EV-S7000 Hi8 editor. I acquired this unit second hand about eight years ago. It does not have a remote, and the plastic fakey cabinet pieces that screwed into the sides of...

Because of its lossy compression DV wasn't used much-if at all for final broadcast. Even by the late 90s big-time brodcasters like the BBC and NBC here in America were already playing shows off...

HiFi was above GX-Silver/HGX-Gold. My favorite tapes were the TDKs from the 90s with the grooved cassettes.

Not sure why you'd want to capture using component video as it's still analog. I highly doubt it's Mac compatible, but I had good results capturing HDV with a Matrox MX02 using my camera's HDMI...

There's is an AVToolbox AVT-8120 for sale right now in the marketplace that's a good frame TBC. I have one. However, it's not perfect because it's composite-only. But a recommended frame TBC with...

I'd view them once to make sure there's nothing on there you want to save. If they were stored close to room temperature at reasonable humidity levels there's no reason they won't play fine.

Comparison between AVTool AVT-8120 and TVOne 1T-TBC-GL

I may be one of the few members here with both a Hi8 VCR (EV-S7000) and a camcorder (TRV85). I agree with Lordsmurf that the camcorder is better. I can post some samples later.
