How to copy Blu-Ray discs?

Hello everyone and thanks for all the help so far.
I have been video taping my family for 20 years. I started with a JVC VHS-C camera, changed to a JVC GR-DV3000U and finally to a Sony HDR-CX560V (which is the camera I have used for the past 7 years). I am currently in the process of getting equipment for transferring the VHS-C tape to computer, then editing and finally making a dvd so we can watch our home movies. Next project will be the 40 DV tapes I have of the family. I will definitely be using this site for help along the way.
Two years ago I finally decided to start transferring all of my recent video's (from the HDR-CX560V) to a Blu-ray disks. I purchased power director 16 and added menu's and edited the video's, prior to burning the disks.
Late last years my 17 year old son, playing video games on my video editing computer damaged the mother board and both the ssd drive and the 2 terabyte drive failed at the same time. I had bought a backup external drive and thought we had backed up the d drive on the computer but apparently the back-up drive only backed up certain file, none of the power director files and only some of the video files.
Since I did make 15 Blu-ray disk prior to losing the files on the computer can I use theses disk to make backup files? Is there a recommended program for making these backup files
Should I just make a iso copy of the disks.

in my experience making an iso with disk utility on a mac will be a 1:1 copy. not sure if it's the same with pc but i would assume so. inside the bluray there should be some m2ts files that contain the videos. you can just copy those if you only want the footage not the entire disk.
bluray -> bdmv -> stream -> file.m2ts

I did check the file structure of one of my Blu-ray disks and confirmed the M2TS.files are located in this directory. if I save these files to a portable hard drive will I be able to create the same Blu-ray disk again or am I just saving the video files and not the complete disk including the menu structure.
If I did want to create a disk image of the Blu-ray disk is there a program recommended for this? I would like to be able to create another Blu-ray disk if the existing disk is ever lost or damaged in the future.

IMGBURN and save as disc image, When you need to make a disc just use the opposite process, disc image to disc.

I downloaded IMGBURN and started to create an image file but immediately get an error
"Sorry, using Read mode to create an image file from a multi-track BD=R disc is not currently supported
Instead, use Build mode to create a new 'clean' image based on the contents of the disk"
Any thoughts on how to proceed

Never heard of this error before, I know for sure IMGBURN does not make disc images from copy protected discs, Did you select copy protection when you first created you disc? Also are you using the right option for the disc image, It should be from disc icon to another disc icon in a rectangle.

To get better answers take the error message and create a thread over at videohelp in the right subforum, You will get an answer.

I used power director 16 to create and burn my Blu-ray disks. I did not put any copy protection that I am aware of, on the Blu-ray disks. I included a screen shot of Imgburn home screen, the option I selected was create Image file from disk. I also included a screen shot of the Imgburn with the error. If this program does not work is there another program recommended to create an ISO file from a Blu-ray disk

That could mean that your bluray disc is not properly built when you first created it, you may try create disc image from files and folders and point to the disc root and see what happens.

You could use the "backup disc" feature of MakeMKV. It won't generate an .iso file but you could use ImgBurn to create one from the directories created by MakeMKV.

I've just installed this (the free version) for a friend, and it works well copying CDs. It says it will copy Bluray disks as well.

You have to give Ashampoo an email address to activate the software, but you can then unsubscribe from the adverts.

I tried to create a disk image from the folders but Imgburn would not recognize this. I was reviewing Blu-ray copying programs last night and I decided to tryout the Leawo Blu-ray program for free. It did create an ISO file from my Blu-ray disk but the ISO file is much smaller then the file on the Blu-ray disk. Is this normal? Has anyone used this program?

I went back and reviewed the Leawo Blu-ray program, and I missed that the free trail will only allow 5 min of copy time. It only copied 1/6 of the Blu-ray disk. That is why my file size was much smaller. So much for trying a program before buying it.
Has anyone had any luck with a paid Blu-ray copy program, specifically copying from the Blu-ray disc to a 1:1 iso file.

Leawo is junkware. Never use it.
Ashampoo is the same.
These are both Chinaware, various Chinese GUIs build on top of freeware.

As mentioned, if ImgBurn doesn't like it, the disc has issues, often physical burn-time recording issues.

The home video's I created on Blu-Ray disks play fine in both of my Sony Blu-Ray players and my dell XPS home computer.
Also I have tried DVDFab Blu-ray copy and Blue-cloner trial versions and both created an Iso file that CyberLink PowerDVD player was able to play, including the menu structure and titles I created, using Cyberlink Powerdirector 16. Since ImgBurn does not want to copy the Blu-Ray disks I created is there a program you recommend? I want to back-up my Blu-Ray disks in case they get damaged

Has anyone used either DVDfab or Blue-cloner to copy Blu-Ray disks to ISO files? As mentioned above ImgBurn does not recognize my home video Blu-Ray disks and I need away to copy the disks to the Hard drive of my computer and then transfer to a portable hard drive. If there is another program that is recommended please let me know

Those programs can make disc images of your discs, You may have to purchase a license.

I am willing to purchase the software just wanted to ensure I get the recommended software. Lordsmurf didn't recommended either Leawo or Ashampoo, the two I was originally thinking of purchasing.

Post #10. Ashampoo disk copier is free. It's very easy to use. I don't know about junkware; disk copiers either work or they don't. If the don't, they are junkware. If they do, they aren't junkware. Try it.
