So made a bit of a mistake whilst repairing my Philips VR 1100 (the S-Video port needed re-soldering); put everything back together and switched on the unit, popped in the tape to play and after realising no HiFi audio or video was coming through, looked inside and noticed I forgot to put the ribbon cable into CN1. Switched the unit back off, plugged it in again and now the drum refuses to spin. I've checked CP4001 to see if that blew in the process, however it seems to be fine.

Would this accident completely destroy the drum or mess up the electronics in any way at all? Been looking through the service manual to see if there's any procedure for this, but have come away completely stuck!

Solved the issue! Turns out that I'd connected the wire that plugs into the top connector of the drum in the wrong way Leaving this here in case anybody runs into the same issue (and as a reminder to myself), always make sure to check your connectors are plugged in correctly when reassembling!

I've done the same thing on a similar deck, easy mistake to make on newer decks with thin ribbon cables. Thankfully there are only metal bits on one side of the cable and socket so no harm in putting it wrong other than it not working.
