Converting AVIs to DVD video on Macs?

Hello,

I've tried Toast and iDVD to do this, with disastrous (huge blocks) results every time. I've seen a few apps suggested on this site, but they're for PCs.

Any suggestions?

Quite a few Windows apps/software can be run in Wine (WineBottler) on a Mac.
ConvertXToDVD v3 ($50) and DVD Flick ($FREE), for example -- both of those are all-in-one AVI-to-DVD programs.

What are the specs of your current system?

A few apps have already been tested by Site Staff.

More tests are pending, but it's simply a matter of time. It was a busy month.

Hello,

I have a Mac Pro tower (2009) quad, 2.66, with 8GB of ram and lots of HD space.

Is there a way I could use apps like Handbrake to make the avis "DVD ready", so that I could then dump them into iDVD or Toast, and that those apps wouldn't have to re-encode them?

Is there any specific reason that you want to use iDVD or Toast?
I would be more inclined to bypass those programs entirely, as both are rather miserable for video work.

Hello,

Well I usually do avi -> dvd with a simple goal in mind. Most of the times I want to take ripped avis and put them back into DVD format for family/friends that don't like to watch long videos on their computer (they'd rather sit in front of their TVs).

So I want to use the simplest, quickest method to convert them.
