I would like the original 1090 and 1098 NTSC (USA) 5005 firmware. Many people now actively buy Lite-on lvw stand alone units on ebay, so someone should have the original firmware on a cd? Many of you know meaningful Liteon support is now nonexistant. They used to have the files online so the files are not illegal.
Many must have downloaded them.

Would you please download or email me (stretch_1950@yahoo.com) a copy of each or either. This Digitalfaq forem is about the last internet site for meaningful 5005 help - but it lacks many original firmware files that really should go along with hacks. They both are software. If I get either original firmware file, I will post for others so others will not get frustrated too.

If I achieve any success, I aim to help this site out and, as well, contribute some money as they really helped me and probably alot of people. That CD or file you probably do not care much about, many others probably have spend hours looking for!

Thank you for your consideration!

Everything we (Site Staff) ever had was archived to this site a few years ago. In hindsight, I wish I'd have grabbed more of the files, but I was also mostly concerned about my own NTSC models, and ignored a number of PAL and non-5001/5005 firmwares. On top of that, 5+ years ago there was a somewhat naive idea online that "the Internet is forever". Obviously that's crap. Stuff disappears all the time. That's one reason we started to archive things in 2008, instead of just linking to external sites that were dropping off one by one. Some had already died, but we had local copies to restore to the web.

I put in a request a while back to two individuals known to have archived LiteOn firmware files in past years. One never replied, and the other said a server crash (with no backup; stupid move!) caused the complete loss of his site. So I've exhausted all avenues that I can think of at the moment.

If you come across more firmware files, please do add them here.

I'm a bit confused by the post if the NTSC 5005 firmwares have been located or not, but I'll happily upload what I found on three old CDs I saved.

I'm not exactly sure what I have here, since I sold off my LVW-5005 recorder sometime ago and I forget the process of updating the firmware, so I'm just basing this off the labels and filenames.
  • On Disc 1, labeled "System Firmware" -- I have a file LNFA1098.ES5. I'm assuming that's the 1098 version you're looking for.
  • On Disc 2, labeled "Drive Firmware" -- I have a file LNFA1000.E30.

I've also notated on the discs that you must apply the System Firmware before the Drive Firmware (with many exclamation points following that notation )
  • On Disc 3, labeled "Hacked System Firmware" -- I have a file LNFA1098.ES5.

I've attached them in a zip file below, I'll go ahead and CC this message to the original poster.

The system firmware seems to be spread over two discs (I have them labelled disc 1 of 2 / disc 2 of 2).

Hope this helps someone!

I'm confused too.
Shoot first ... errr ... Upload whatever you have, and we'll figure out the rest later.

I'd rather have some duplicates, as opposed to something missing.

I went ahead and just dumped everything I had for LiteOn DVD recorders to several threads on the forum. I no longer have any LiteOn DVD recorders (having sold them through the years, in favor of other hardware), so I can't test anything. But I don't mind sharing what had been archived since 2004 by members and staff of this site.

Let's see if it all helps somebody!

Slightly off topic, but the LVW-5005 was my first foray into DVD recorders and all things considered, was a pretty good little recorder for HQ sources especially. It had pretty great NR for a DVD recorder as I recall.

The big negatives against it as I remember were the CVBR encoding (macroblocks on fast motion in SP mode drove me crazy) and that is seemed awfully prone to failure. I don't know if the LP mode firmware hacking had any impact upon that, but the first one I had died on me after about 6 months and the replacement they sent me died in a couple of weeks. Still, in the days before being spoiled by DVD recorders like the JVC DR-M100S, they seemed pretty great!

Thank you {{robjv1}} for providing the files required to firmware update the Liteon 50005 DVRs with the model 0102 motherboards. The file (LNFA1098.ess.0102.184x.zip) is currently unavailable and the 1098 file you provided works flawlessly.

I was unable to record streaming media from my networked Samsung Blu Ray machine. Toggeling off the Macrovision flag in the firmware update did the trick. I now am able to archive streaming video. I did a test using the composite video jacks. I will try the SVHS ones next, but expect they will be OK.

I hope to repay the site in-kind by assisting others. While on the internet hunt for this file I observed a memorable quote: "Sharing to learn means learning to share." Thanks for a great site.
