Hmmm....
This quote --
"according to a report in Japanese newspaper Asahi Shimbun" -- doesn't appear to come from an authoritative sources from within Mitsubishi. CDRInfo.com seems to have jumped the gun on the assessment that MKM was halting production on blank recordable Blu-ray and DVD media. Not really good reporting on their part.
And this is not new:
"not profitable for manufacturing in Japan" -- that's been known for at least a half decade now. That's why production was being outsourced, using various outsourcing methods, as far back as 7-8 years ago. MKM uses an outsource model that offloads their in-house production to other facilities (i.e., MKM at MBI, MKM at FTI, MKM at CMC, etc), aside from their Singapore location.
This quote --
"target market of our own products move from consumer to Business to Business (B2B) market" -- explains away the Life Series and Value Series discs. You can still buy MKM-made Verbatim branded media from media specialty stores (Supermediastore, Meritline, etc) and
Amazon stores (
Amazon.com,
Amazon.co.uk,
Amazon.fr, etc)
So CDRInfo just raised a false alarm. Nothing has changed in a while now. The status quo appears safe for the time being.
