I've got a line on a very good condition HR-S7600U and I'm curious if there is a difference between the JVC HR-S7600 and HR-S7600u, or if these are one in the same unit.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I know this is an old thread, but I think the explanation of the difference between U and non U models would be beneficial also to the rest of the JVC VCR range,

Seems like the U model is an updated version. Has more buttons on it and an extra green lit button for S-VHS ET, also some extra buttons around the screen which 7600 doesn't have. the 7600U claims to have SVHS enhanced technology, whatever that is and dynamic drum. While the HR S7600 just says DigiPure and that's it.

The obvious difference is that the 7600U is black and 7600 is silver, but I doubt they are exactly the same, what would be the point?

The letter suffix on JVC VCRs indicates the market its for. "U" = US/Canada NTSC models. There is also a HR-S7600AM that was sold overseas that supports PAL/MESECAM/NTSC playback.... its also silver and likely the model you saw. See this auction for a photo of that model: http://www.ebay.com/itm/152479167759

The HR-S7600U sold in the USA was only available in black.
