I recently replaced my old (2003) surround system (Non HDMI)....with a new (Cheap but much better) Yamaha RX-V377 surround amp (Finally, a real Amp!)...But found out that I have to start my HDTV,and then AMP (DISH receiver usually always on) in the proper sequence,..so they can can check/talk to each other b-4 they decide if they want to give me video or not!..Just an observation, But found out this is becoming a common thing if you connect equipment using the HDMI connections!...Sometimes my TV only shows a PINK screen after starting it all up, the fix is to shut down Surround Amp and TV, Then Re-Start,And everything is OK!

This is just another reason that I like stereo. No surround sound or receiver here!

There is a work-aruond (I think) is to simply run HDMI video cable(s) directly from output components to TV, And run Audio cables (only) to AV Amp. (lots of remote control switching TV and Amp to source you are watching from!) And in the 1970/80's, I had a good old JVC stereo with "4s" simulated surround speaker circuit, which reversed the polarity on the two rear speakers, (and a resistor on ground or something?) and it brought out the faint echoes/reverb and more quieter sounds on records/tapes!
