The following two pictures are screenshots using Moyea of a video transfer from Hi8 to DVD. The Hi8 was shot with a Sony Handycam in April and July 1994. The third and fourth images are photographs taken with a photo camera from the same days, only minutes apart from the video (in the last photo, you can see the leg of the woman filming the video).
For Hi8 films, do they hold up well considering the age?

video transfer from Hi8 to DVD.
Burn only in an emergency on DVD
the data rate is too low

4: 3 is always 4: 3

Filter with Avisynth and
A.save in mpeg2 with 14`000 kbps on a USB stick or external hard drive.
Interlaced.
[NTSC audio in AC3......... For PAL MPEG2 Layer 2 or in AC3]

B.With QTGMC in Avisnth and scaling to 960 x 720
Image size in the player is 1280 x 720
In the example image in PAL 50p
Source still in raw format before encoding in mpeg2 or MP4

I don't understand any of that - I'm new at this whole thing.
