Every time I turn off the VCR from the front button and turn it back ON it prompt me to choose the language and go thru other settings, I put new battery on the back but still getting the message, all settings stay current after turning off the VCR but still getting the prompt screen anyway. Any idea ??

Sometimes new batteries can be duds. I've had that happen far too often with computers and cameras.

If the battery is guaranteed good, then caps are a possibility. Although JVC S-VHS VCR caps are not a common problem, it can happen.

What happens if you turn it off with a remote, and not the front panel?

It makes no difference, However if the battery is bad shouldn't the date and time go blank?
