I am in the process of buying good equipment via this forum, and getting rid of my old equipment and a couple questions have arisen.

I have an NEC VC-734E Betamax VCR. It worked in 2013 after I had it serviced, and i digitized some home movies. Then after plugging it in a couple weeks ago, it would not take a tape. The stop/eject button was blinking. I waited a couple days then tried again and it loaded a tape, but now the tape won't eject! Stupid me. Pushing various buttons makes it sound like it's trying to do something, then stops.

I can get a working Sony betamax VCR for $100 or less from craigslist, so I am not inclined to get this one serviced for $60 min unless this is an extraordinary model.

My questions:

1. Any tips for removing the tape besides pulling out my tools and taking this thing apart piece by piece (and probably ruining it for any future use)
2. Does this unit have any sort of as-is value to anyone? I remember reading someone's philosophy on old equipment like this should not be thrown out since there's always someone looking for parts.

Possibly a problem with the mode switch? But I'm a noob with VCR internals. I just watch YouTube videos and read some old posts. The old Usenet archive is great for this stuff.

Serviced manuals usually include a how-to-remove-a-tape section.
They often can be found or purchased on line.
When i couldn't find a free one in the past I've bought from:

http://www.user-manuals.com

I see they list a manual for the NEC PVC-760/4/6E Betamax VCRs. Don't know if they are similar to yours..
