Memorex Video8 tape, cannot fix white piece?

I have opened a Memorex Video 8 tape and cannot figure out where this white piece goes.

I rarely open Video8 tapes, so not sure offhand. The easy solution is to open another -- more carefully this time -- and learn from it. I do that with lots of things, though usually the first attempt is on an unimportant test item.
