I find myself with a video monitor that accepts interlaced video signals and will display them, with no computer inbetween.

Is it a good idea to monitor the input before it gets captured and displayed in the Virtual Dub Preview window, or is that kind of pointless?

Thanks

Lilliput model FA1045-NP

I've had it in the back of the closet for years and just found it again. Still shows up on Amazon and BH Video

Yes, overkill.

It's NOT a good ideas to insert anything between capture card and VCR/TBC/etc in workflow.

At most, some higher end VCRs have multiple outputs, for that very reason. Some TBCs do as well. So you can monitor on CRT while you capture. (I actually did this from 2007-2012. And I probably still would, if I'd not been forced to end everything due to health. My "monitor" was just a really, really nice CRT TV, not a broadcast monitor. So it's now retired to personal use.)
