I'm looking for a working LaserDisc player which would be capable of playing the 1995 widescreen releases of the original Star Wars trilogy. (I'm looking to prove for the current generation that Han Shot First!)

I'm flexible on pricing but I'd like to keep it in the $250 range or less. I'm also looking at eBay; if you don't have a unit but if you have any caveats to pass along as to what to look for your advice would be welcomed. S-Video output compatible with an AIW card is a must. Thanks for any assistance.

Thankfully, I have the LD already dumped to DVD, though it was done 15+ years ago (and not by me). There's always room for quality improvement. Capture lossless, mild filtering in Avisynth, good author work. I'd suggest it be Blu-ray or better.

I'd like to see what you do with it.

Since I didn't get a nibble from this thread, and since Porter Electronics had a refurbished (their word...hope they're being straight!) Pioneer CLD-V2600 laserdisc player available for $296 delivered, I went ahead and bought from them. They offer a 90 day warranty; anything specific I should be checking for once I get the player and get it set up?

You need to PM metaleonid and get his input on this thread.
NJRoadfan may have some input to add.
There are some other LD expertise members here, you'll see them participate in past LD threads.
markatisu was my go-to about 10-15 years, but he's left the video hobby.

I've never been into LD, would defer to their knowledge here.

Can't add much on LaserDisc as I never got into it. What I can tell you is comb filters matter....a lot. LaserDisc is natively composite so any player with S-Video is using a built in comb filter, which may or may not be all that great.
