Looking at a PAL S-VHS and the Panasonic NV-FS200 seems to be a recommend model. The only ones I can find are on eBay from vcrshop.nl. Wanted to know if anyone has bought from them and what their experience was like. Also is it worth getting a refurbished model? (also is the remote a must have - most do not have them)

If anyone has a better place to source these devices that would be most welcome too, as i've seen mention that these guys are overpriced but they also seem to have a monopoly on the supply too.

Thanks!

It depends on where you come from... Europe...US...rest of the world.

The Panasonic FS200 is one of the most recommend SVHS-VCR in Europe (and most people now know this...). It was released in Germany in 1992.
The remote control isn't really necessary. But if I had to spend about 300,- Euro for the unit I would like to have the original one.

Sometimes the Blaupunkt RTV-950 (which is the same unit) you can find a little bit cheaper.

If you live outside of europe you should think about the shipping costs and tax..

We bough a Philips VR1100 SVHS from them. It was really well packed, and has worked well, though I think the heads are a bit worn.

It depends on how much you want to gamble really, if you buy from them you know you gets something that has been looked at and works, and you can contact them if there are issues. If you go for a random seller instead you can maybe get it cheaper but it's a bit up to luck whether it's in good shape or not, you can get lucky and get a pristine one, or be unlucky and get a messed up junk one which may or may not be salvageable.

I don't know if these decks are subject to the same capacitor issues as the NTSC analogues, if they are, you have to be extra careful with random sellers.

Sorry I should have mentioned I'm currently in the US.
