Toshiba RD-XS34 DVD Recorder no video output

I have been reading many of the articles on the FAQ which has motivated me to get around to converting all my VHS video to digital format, before they are no longer playable, however when powering up my Toshiba RD-XS34 I have found there is no video output just sound.

I have tried all outputs component, s-video, Scart and all have the same issue. The UHF passthrough works ok as I expected but just thought it was worth asking if anyone else has ever had a similar problem and could point me in the right direction before getting the Soldering Iron and Oscilloscope out !!

There are a number of potential problems.

Number one on my experience list PAL vs NTSC input signal. You have to make sure your Input signal type is correct for the model and setup currently engaged. And then make sure its output type is correct for Interlaced or Progressive (i vs p type). Any one of these variables can produce the behavior your seeing.

To help we'd need to know more about where you are (North America or Other), whether your using NTSC or PAL and what your viewing device is - Computer, LCD TV, CRT TV, ect..
