I seem to spot an issue today where this VCR stopped a tape and rewinded it to the start when it was only 90 minutes in. Is this a setting or something? I'm not sure why it would do that.

Just confirmed this is definitely happening at one specific part on the tape. Any ideas?

Does this do it on all tapes at that point? Maybe the tape you are using has damage - if the tape is stiff or stuck the deck will automatically rewind as it does that to prevent damage by stretching the tape.

There is no feature in thus deck to do that but my money is on a tape with something sticking inside it.

No, just this one tape.

>Maybe the tape you are using has damage

I was thinking that, but I just can't see how a tape can stick at just one point with the way the mechanism works? The fact that I can fast forward past that part is also a bit suspicious.

But, no one else has chimed in so I take it you're correct, and there's no feature that would do that and the tape must be sticking. Cheers!

These decks are very sensitive to tapes that are a bit stiff. Machine thinks it has reached the end when it hasn't. One tip for you is to try another shell - swap the reels over. Sometimes that's all it needs. Or when the tape stops at that point eject it before the rewind starts and look at the tape surface. May have a bit of oily residue.

One thing that happened to me once was a tape where all the black stuff had peeled off in a spot so it was transparent and made the VCR think it was the end of the tape.

Quasipal, hodgey I will actually have a look at the surface and see. I really want to know now!

I got past this by just fast forwarding for 30 seconds and that fixed it...
