That is old! Was it working previously and stopped working or did you buy it in that state? Just that with old decks you can have several faults all at once - electrical and mechanical.

Honestly, if its not in perfect external condition or of sentimental value I would just hunt down a working newer one.

Do you have an expert local to you? May be something simple if they take a look.

Hi there. I recently overhauled a 7500. These decks have two loading belts at the bottom of the mechanism which tend to slip. Also cleaning the mode switch should prevent any future issues with that. To access the bottom side of the mechanism, remove the bottom cover of the machine and then remove all the RED screws securing the servo and luminance/chroma boards, then pull the boards upwards. The mechanism is the same in all models of the NV-7xxx series, so an NV-7800 service manual should be useful:

That link has nothing for download. Just a donate link.
If you actually have the manual, please attach it directly to a forum post. (http://www.digitalfaq.com/forum/news...ly-upload.html)

Actually, the link worked for me. Just clicked on the "a" line with the VCR listed on it.

It is uploaded attached.

Here are the schematics for the 7500. Sorry they are not in very good resolution but are mostly readable.
