So I have an odd issue with my RDR-VX530 DVD tray. It wouldn't open most of the time even though I could hear it trying. I then realized if I tap the top of the unit when it's trying to eject the tray would indeed eject. I figured out the issue is the top lid of the DVD drive. When the lid is on, the tray gets stuck, and it seems like it's getting stuck from the pressure that the lid puts on the tray. When I remove the lid it opens like a champ. Any idea how to solve this? I've included a couple videos to demonstrate what I'm talking about. Thank you!!

I had this problem on a DVD recorder, DVD player, and an XBOX. The issue seems to be warping, where the case lid would squeeze (or whatever, pressure?) something by even just 1mm. DVD trays are smaller, the innards smaller, and 1mm can be a mile. For me, the solution for all 3 was to simply leave the lid unscrewed.

This also happened with a DVD burner in the computer. The solution there was the trashcan, with a new burner.

Sometimes engineers, or product designers, make dumb choices for usage.

Unfortunately along with screws this one has clips that hold it pressed down. That being said I actually think it's the magnet, because it opened and closed fine with a disc in there. Only then did I find out the disc doesn't spin either, so I think I'm out of luck. I'm assuming maybe the motor is fried if it's not spinning. The laser still comes on but the disc sits there and an error comes up.
