Hi all,

I have several JVC HR-S9911U units and a JVC LP 20465-015 remote (bought separately). Unfortunately, I can't seem to get the VCRs to respond to the remote.

The remote appears to be working fine (I see the IR emitter flashing through my cellphone camera).

A couple of months ago (before I got the remote), I was able to at least turn them on or off using an IR blaster with my phone, but now the VCRs are not responding to the IR blaster either.

The VCRs had been turned off for a while. They function just fine without the remote, but I would like to be able to access the menu (which I can only do with the remote).

Any ideas on how to get them to respond to the remote (or the IR blaster).

Thank you for any advice

It seems you've already removed the variable of simply having a bad remote. That leaves the IR sensor is blocked, dirty, or bad. Blocked or dirty is simply, dismantle the front plate of unit. Bad would require replacing, which involves soldering. But I've also seen where the IR going out is part of a larger board problem.

I cleaned out he IR sensor head and there was no improvement either with the remote or an IR blaster.

I'd be surprised if the IR sensors on all of the VCRs (I have 5 of the same model) stopped working simultaneously (given they responded to an IR blaster a couple months ago).

I'll try replacing one of the sensors and see if that is the issue.
