Hi all,
I have the PAL version of the JVC DR-M10 for many years and it worked perfectly.
Lately when copying VHS tapes to DVD, the recorder turns itself off after a period of time.
Typically this happens after 10-20 min of recording. For a few seconds I see "Loading" in the display and the recorder turns off. Sometimes it runs longer and sometimes the complete movie gets recorded.
Could this be due to overheating?
I opened it up and noticed that the box to the right of the DVD drive gets very hot.
Any help or suggestion is highly appreciated!
Thanks, Dan

Caps are going out.
Quite a few posts about this, in this very subforum, going back 10+ years. Search for those.

My JVC DR-M10 turned itself off after a period of time. This time shortened more and more, in the end it turned it self off after just a new minutes.
After Lordsmurf suggested that the caps are going out, I replaced all caps and installed new good quality ones.
The unit started up nicely, so I think I installed everything correctly.
BUT: the problem is still there... Unit is turning off after 30 mins... :-(
Does anyone have any other suggestions what could be the problem?

Exactly 30 minutes?
What is the "power save" setting set to?

No, not exactly 30 mins. It varies between 15 and 30 mins.
Another note:
My unit is currently open and an external fan is running to keep the interior cool. Problem persists.
The power save was set to ON, since I changed the caps.
I am now running another test with power save OFF.

This time I tested with power save OFF:
The unit turned itself OFF after 27 min.... sigh :-(
To be exact, the unit re-boots and continues to record....
I replaced all caps on the power board, was I also supposed to replace all resistors??

More test results....
I bought a new JVC DR-M10 online which had a broken DVD drive. I replaced all caps on the PSU on the new machine.
I installed my old DVD drive in the new DVD recorder:
--> Recording stops after 20-21 mins. SAME ISSUE.
I started to believe that my DVD drive went bad...
I therefore ordered a Sony DVD drive DRU-842A online. Someone posted in another thread that it would work.
So I installed the Sony drive in my old DVD recorder. To my astonishment, the machine accepted it and it was able to read DVDs and even format them. So I started a recording:
--> Recording stops after 20-21 mins. SAME ISSUE!!
Then I installed the Sony drive in the new DVD recorder.
--> Recording stops after 20-21 mins. SAME ISSUE!!
How can 2 completely different DVD recorders behave EXACTLY the same with 2 different DVD drives??
This is starting to drive me crazy....
Plus:
The DVD recorder stays ON indefinitely without issue. BUT only when I start recording it shuts down after 20-21 minutes?
And why does it shut down at almost the exact same time??
