My JVC HR-S7800U VCR has a peculiar issue in that sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. When it doesn't work, I put a VHS tape into the VCR and it will run for a few seconds, then ejects. On top of that, I heard a grinding/screeching sound.

When it doesn't work, I notice the loading motor belt was not really moving, and so moved it along using my finger. This seemed to do the trick for the meantime. At this point, should I get the VCR cleaned by someone local (like a mom and pop store) to see if that clears it?

I have talked with SouthernAdvantage and they said they think its a cleaning issue, and they will charge around $160. Do you have any suggestions for me? Thanks!

I doubt this is mere cleaning.
Belts, maybe.
For this model, drive motor is likely.
SA should know better than that. Whoever you spoke with is an idiot.

If you live in southeastern Massachusetts, I have a guy. John's TV in Taunton.
Just did major work on my 7800 and it's rock solid.
In fact he just refurbed my 4800 and I'll post on that shortly.
