Hello, I haven't used this VCR (a JVC SR-MV45U) in over a year due to being incredibly busy, however I've decided to get back into the hobby of capturing. I bought this VCR in 2019 and it was very clean. Since buying this VCR, I have not captured many tapes (I've captured maybe 6-7). The exterior of the VCR has understandably accrued dust, and it would make sense if the interior looks the same. The VCR was in the basement for a while but I moved it to my room in 2021 so as to prevent dust accumulation.

Do the same VCR cleaning procedures apply to a VCR + DVD video recorder combo or is there a different protocol? The VCR's manual states to use a dry cleaning cassette, however I remember reading negative opinions about doing this on the forum (I could be misremembering though).

You don't have to do anything besides dust in off, Bring it to room temperature and plug it in, leave it on for like half hour and try a cassette, if it works leave it alone.
