Hi all, I found some old VHS and VHS-C tapes laying around at my parents house and decided to buy a VCR to play and digitalize them. I purchased a JVC S-VHS HR-S7611EU off Ebay since it's apparently one of the nicer units which has a TBC module build in. The seller claimed it was fully operational and won't refund so I'll try repairing it myself.
The first time I inserted a VHS, it got rejected and was stuck inside the VCR. I opened it up to retrieve my VHS and saw that the left side of the eject bay didn't lift. After wiggling the bay a bit both sides went up again and I was able to eject my VHS.
When I insert a VHS now, the VCR takes the tape and loads it as expected, starts to spin but then shuts off. The display doesn't mention any errors. When I restart the device it spins the tape again but eventually shuts off again. Any ideas? If I press eject the tape comes out as expected.
It takes a couple tries to get the VCR to accept the tape, the first 2-3 times it usually just spits out the VHS again.
I tried multiple tapes, both VHS-C with an adapter and full size VHS tapes. All of them cause the same issue. They play just fine on my old camrecorder.
