I hope this is where I put this. I recently got a JVC HR-S9911U off of eBay. When I fast forward and rewind it makes some squeaky sounds. This is especially true if I use the jog shuttle to fast forward or rewind very slowly. I'm not sure if its supposed to be this way as I've never used a high end VCR before.

I haven't tried a hole lot of tapes, but yes this occurs on all three tapes I tried. One was an SLP recorded tape, and two were commerical pre recorded tapes. The noise seems to happen whenever right before the tape comes to a complete stop or when I'm fast forwarding or rewinding very slowly. Basically this seems to happen when the tape is moving slowly, either coming to a stop, or what not.

my jvc hr-s9850 PAL aka JVC HR-S9911U, with tape EP makes noise when you rewind the VHS. I think it's normal.
Tapes in SP mode does not make noise.

Generally this is an issue with the tapes -- not the VCR. There's really not anything inside the VCR that could squeak.

If all of your tapes were stored in the same place, then it's highly likely that they've been subjected to humidity damage, and are somewhat sticky (even in microscopic amounts), and that can cause the clamshell spools to make a lot of noise. I run into this quite a bit. For example, one customer may send in a dozen tapes and every one squeals like mad in the VCRs -- any VCR. The next client has tapes that are flawless. I even run into that with personal tapes -- mostly the used commercial tapes of unknown origin. My own home recordings are flawless, because they've been stored properly for their entire lifespan.
