i just picked up an AG-1980 that has a weird issue.
playback and loading seem fine.
but if i rewind a tape all the way to the beginning or fast-forward to the end it locks up with an F03 or F04 code.
i then have to unplug the unit and wait about an hour to get it to eject the tape.

im thinking possibly mode switch, but pannys really are not my forte
anybody have a similar issue?

Anything weird with an AG-1980 these days tends to be related to the capacitors being out of value, dried up, or bulged/leaking.
Anything.

Note that these error codes should be in the service manual. Have you checked it? I believe it's attached to the forum.
All manuals (or at least most of them) are found here: http://www.digitalfaq.com/forum/vcr-...r-manuals.html

... though I realize you probably already know this.
