Hello everyone,

Last week I bought second hand VCR Panasonic NV-HS1000 and I'm not too sure if everything is ok with this device. So I've got few questions to people who have some experience with this VCR.

1. Can I still get video head for this model? I already checked ebay - nothing on it.
2. Sometimes the video is jumping on the screen - is that a problem with vhs cassette or video head? I can also see white lines sometimes on the screen (not often).
3. Can someone tell me if everything is ok with this VCR by look at it?

Thanks,
Matt

i'm not sure it's possible. all we can tell you it has been used some based on the head cleaning wheel.

how about testing the problem tape in another VCR?
that should tell you if the problem is in the tape or not.
also you can try to play it with and without TBC to see if difference and show us the results.

It's not really possible to tell head condition just from looking. Sometimes yes, sometimes no.

The above advice is good: Test the problem tape in another VCR/
And: Also use an external TBC.

- For sale in the marketplace: TBCs, workflows, capture cards, VCRs

First thing get that dirty cleaning roller out - that is only doing harm now, no longer cleaning anything.

Heads are available here http://www.4ourhouse.co.uk/nvhs900-h...&query=vxp1747 but I have not used them. Be aware that head alignment on S-VHS decks is quite critical - not just plug and play. In my opinion the heads on your unit are worn quite a bit, but I am only going by the level of 'roller abrasion' on the drum. I see quite a bit.

My advice, don't bother trying a new head - I tried and failed. It needs test tapes which are unobtainable.

According to the service manual it needs special test tapes with unique signals on which must correspond to certain settings on the oscilloscope. How important this is I cannot say, but just setting the guides was not enough - the picture always showed noise.

Yes, we cannot get these special tapes to normal people.

An oscilloscope quite exists here of course, is analogous and for digital.

If necessary my TV engineer is only 500 metres away,I can ask him nervous with many ;-)
