I have a new Panasonic AG-W1 that plays VHS tapes in black and white. I'm not terribly knowledgable about VHS issues in general, so bear with me. When I try a regular VHS tape, there are no issues with the picture. Everything is crystal clear and the audio works fine. However, it is in black and white. Because this has happened on both a TV and a projector, where another VCR played just fine, I believe that the issue is probably with he AG-W1. Does anyone have any idea what could be the issue? Because everything else seems to work perfectly and there are no other picture issues, I am inclined to think that it might be a settings/configuration issue rather than a hardware issue. Any thoughts?

Hello
Of course I also have a W1 but not a problem
"New" ... was 20 years ago.
Black and white VHS movies I have, the dictator [Charly Chaplin + the first film with Jerry Cotton.
But that have been taken at that time in black and white.
Try it the "NTSC or PAL" to play with another player.
Capture card switch to PAL or NTSC

Thanks, I appreciate your reply. Unfortunately, I'm not quite certain what you are asking me to do.

When I play VHS tapes that should be in color, they are in black and white, so the tapes are not the issue.

What do you mean by "Try it the "NTSC or PAL" to play with another player?" Do you mean to use the tapes in a different VCR?

When I tried this on my projector, I switched the video input settings to PAL, NTSC, etc, on the projector. There was still no color.

Thanks again for your help.

yes

Is the band playing in PAL or NTSC?

Here I have 6 or 7 combi recorder to choose from.
Because it is easier for me to see whether a recorder is defective.

Back settings correctly

Thanks for your help. Before I saw this reply I changed the setting on the front from "NTSC" to "Through." That seems to have worked, and VHS tapes now play in color.

Thanks again.

B&W could be a signal wiring issue. Some are not bidirectional cables (SCART, for example).
Or it could be a PAL/NTSC issue.

It sounds as if you original tape was PAL, and converting it to NTSC created the problem, Just remember it for next time.
