Each time I turn on the VCR, I can heard a motor noise. I found out it's the video drum motor. I have attached a video of it. So it looks like the video heads getting power but why isn't it spinning.

One of my 3800s was doing this recently. It sounded right, but a tape would eject shortly after insertion. I just used some mild brute force. Next time I turned on the unit, I took my finger and placed it along the top edge of the drum, and gave it a gentle shove clockwise...

...and it started spinning.

After that, it was fine ... sort of.

It now squeals a bit. But that's another problem for another day. I just care that it works. It probably just needs lube. I'm not currently using it, and may never need to again. Mostly keeping it because it was the recording deck for about 200 of my S-VHS-ET recordings. Just in case I need the original VCR, for a stubborn tape, I have it.

I think it's more of a dead capacitor or resistor because there is no power into the video drum. I've been watching youtube electronic repair videos by 12voltvids. He makes it looks easy. I even bought a Fluke 115 multimeter and ESR meter. Hopefully I can do simple repairs like in his videos. The diagnostic part is the hard part.

Do you know what the motor at the bottom of the video drum is for? I can't find much info in the service manual, except it's a direct drive motor. Most VCRs don't have a motor at the bottom of the video drum.
